Poetry Challenge April 2011

Well, when Merina dropped by for a visit two weekends ago, she gave me the following 5 words to work up into a poem: chocolate, purple, igloo, turban, and snatch.

Here's what I came up with.  (You try it!)

Winter Cloak

The sky turns pink, then purple
as the sun slowly dips.
Thick clouds wrap their misty arms
like a turban around the mountain tips.
The earthy bank of the river
is a deep rich chocolate brown;
slowly turning white as snowflakes collect
building little igloos over stones and sticks - a tiny town -
until a breeze begins to blow.
The wind hums merrily; to poke
and snatch at everything is fun.
Slowly all is covered in a winter cloak.

Eagle eating fish, April 2nd 2011

On April 2nd, Dad, Wim and I went to the Sagebrush Theatre in Kamloops to take in the play "Mambo Italiano".  It was pretty good.  Afterwards, we went out for dinner at the Storms Restaurant in Kamloops which is right on the Thompson River.  (This was an event put on by the IOF.)

While we were at the restaurant, Wim spotted an eagle fishing... we watched it dive-bomb the water several times and finally it landed in the water and caught a fish.  As soon as it got to the bank of the river, the crows started pestering it and after a minute it flew across to our side of the river and landed on the post you see in the pictures.

It was now close enough for me to get some pictures.... these are all taken at full zoom.
