Oh Deer...

On July 22, I spotted a deer stolling down the street past the office.  I managed to get it in a photo... if you zoom in and look just to the right of the museum sign, you can see the back end of the deer - it had just put it's head down so all you really see is the rump (I wasn't fast enough to get a good shot).

Moth

This lovely huge moth was outside by the light above the front door for hours a few days ago, giving me plenty of time to take several photos - click on the pics to see him/her upclose!

Ceanothus Silkmoth ( Hyalophora euryalus )

Identification: This is one of the largest moths found in the area. It can be distinguished by an elongated white eyespot on each wing and a multicolored marginal eyespot on the forewings. It is reddish brown in color with a submarginal white line on all wings and light margins. They have large, feathery antennae and an extremely hairy body with white lines across the abdomen.

Habitat and Range: This saturnid is found west of the Rockies from British Columbia south to Mexico. It inhabits numerous habitats including coastal areas, coniferous forests, and chaparral.

Food: Larvae feed on buckbrush (from which they take their name Ceanothus ), willow, madrone, alder, and a number of other trees and bushes. Adults do not feed.

It tends to rest with its wings held above it.

Hummingbirds

Forgive the fuzzy glarish look to this video clip. I took it through the dusty (dirty) kitchen window into a setting sun. Will try again in the morning when the glare should be a bit less.....

Aaaagh!! - how do you rotate a video????? If anyone knows, please post a comment on how!!

Butterflies in the Garden

I was in the community garden today taking in a worm composting workshop, when I spotted this little fellow (gal?). It was sunning itself on a flower and fanning it's wings, and generally being gorgeous. I took over a dozen shots of it, but these are the best 4.

Enjoy!!!

If you click on the images you will get a close up view....

Eagle in an Osprey nest!

On my drive to work each morning I pass this nest. Coming from Barriere it is just before you get to the McLure Restaurant on the right.

The farmer that owns the field put up the pole years ago to encourage local Ospreys to nest there instead of on top of hydro pole (where they tend to start fires).

Usually Ospreys nest there, but this year it appears an eagle has taken it!

I snapped this photo at just the right time and caught him (her?) in mid flap!

Time flies when you are having fun......

*S*I*G*H*

My vacation is over!

Tomorrow I have to go to work again. Ah well... all good things must (unfortunately) come to an end, I guess.

At the beginning of the week I visited with my sister Sylvia in Merritt. She has some interesting 4 legged neighbours.

This cat was drinking from a small puddle in the wheelbarrow .... isn't he cute!

And here is Sylvia giving another 4 legged neighbour a treat.

Then, Thursday to Saturday, I was at the 62nd Diocesan CWL Convention. (CWL = Catholic Women's League)
This is the display they set up for the statue of Our Lady of Good Counsel.
It was a great event and I enjoyed myself immensely!
